Mission Statement
The mission of the Bulgarian Cultural Center of Baltimore “Dora Gabe” (“BCCB”) is to encourage and enhance the potential of its students to thrive as global citizens by stimulating curiosity and appreciation for the Bulgarian language, culture, history, natural beauty, and rich ethnic traditions. This is achieved by inspiring every student to reach their full intellectual and creative potential through carefully tailored curriculum and programs. We aim to nurture a life-long love, respect, and appreciation for the Bulgarian language and culture by embracing Bulgaria’s rich diversity and heritage. We support an environment in which all are welcomed, respected, and trusted.
Code of Conduct for BCCB members
In order to ensure productivity, to create a successful environment, and to comply with our mission, it is important for all members to understand and adhere to certain principles.
To guarantee the success of our activities, it is necessary to create and to maintain an optimal and productive environment, based on mutual respect and compromise, all while following the adopted schedules. Discussions of any issues should be conducted in good faith.
Guidelines for Parents of BCCB Students
Establishing a productive and safe environment is vital for all activities of the school. We make every effort to maintain the highest level of both the curriculum and professionalism of our instructors. However, even a well-structured curriculum and the highest professionalism are, at times, not enough for students to fully absorb all material.
It is critical for the school to maintain a high level of discipline, quiet and order in the classroom. In order to achieve this, students’ parents should provide active guidance and instill the importance of class activities. Parents should encourage appropriate class behavior and respect for fellow students’ rights to a productive learning environment, enforce the need to follow instructions, and, most importantly, to respect the instructor. Any disregard for the above, in cases of rude behavior or disrespect, in order to maintain the success of the class and the safety of students, the teachers will utilize any appropriate and ethical means to restore order in the classroom. For such incidents, the parents will be notified immediately and such cases will be discussed to avoid such situations in the future.
Parents are encouraged to monitor the progress of their children, to assist their children with challenging homework, to review what has been taught and learned, and to actively help in their child’s education. Speaking Bulgarian at home is a proven method of learning and maintaining active Bulgarian speaking abilities, which then enables students to better learn the curriculum taught at school.
